Bars and Pubs

Lock Tavern, Camden, NW1 8AJ. Open,Sunday 12 –11pm; Thursday 12-12pm; Friday 12 –1am; Saturday 12 –1am

The Lock Tavern is filled with young, vibrant and beautiful people. The pub has a garden and serves food which is useful for lining the stomach in a bar where excess is not so much tolerated as encouraged!

The Earl of Camden, NW1 7PN. Open, Mon-Sat 11am-11pm; Sun 12pm-10:30pm

A large pub that shows live sport and has good drink deals. Somewhere to enjoy a game of pool. This pub attracts a mixed crowd of after work drinkers and locals.

Hawley Arms,Camden, NW1 8QU. Open, Sun-Mon 12am- 12pm; Fri & Sat 12pm- 1am.

A very popular and trendy pub with an indie crowd. Good sofas, acceptable food and drink prices and a nice roof terrace make the Hawley Arms worth a visit!

The Macbeth, N1 6LP. Open until 2am Fri and Sat.

Once a run down pub and now an edgy East London hangout- The Macbeth attracts art students and locals. Music varies from night to night so check their website for details. Entry fee is usually under £5.

The Trinity, Borough,SE1 1JX. Open, Mon-Wed,Sun 12pm-11pm; Thu-Sat 12pm-1am

The trinity has a good atmosphere, decent decor and brings in a varied crowd. It gets busy after work hours as city dwellers unwind with a drink. A less pretentious pub then the above listed. It is a good place for a first date and food is under a tenner. This pub is near to Kings College London Guys campus and GDS halls.

The Rocket, Euston,NW1 2AL. Open Mon-Wed 11.30am-12am; Thu-Fri 11.30-2am; Sat-Sun 10am-2am

A good place to get cheap food if you are living in any of the intercollegiate halls. This pub is a hit with students as drinks are very cheap especially on a Tuesday! The pub has a pool table and sky sports- a student hang out mainly because it is cheap not because it is particularly swish or trendy!

Clubs and Nights

OFF Modern@Corsica Studios, Elephant and castle,SE17 1LB. Once a month- check the website!

OFF MODERN has moved to Corsica studios on Elephant and Castle roundabout. It’s £5 to £8 depending on the time you arrive. It’s a young crowd with a good ratio of boys and girls. Live bands, indie, electronic and dub step music. This place is a lot of fun and gets very busy. A good night to dance and get sweaty! The only downside- the toilets!

White Heat @ Madame JoJos, Soho,W1F 0SE. Tuesday.

An Indie club night which usually kicks off with a live band on at 8pm followed by a DJ set from 10.30pm-3am. It is undoubtedly geared towards students and has generated quite a name for itself as the place to get drunk and dance on Tuesday nights, so expect long queues if you get there much later than 11.30. It has an air that suggests it should be held in East London (i.e. extremely indie, extremely focused on fashion and extremely ‘cool’), and the trawls of teens and twenty-somethings will often be the most stylish of London Arts students, which occasionally gives the atmosphere a slightly pretentious air. The venue is good.
£6 entry, £5/£4 with flyer : £2 for vodka-mixer, £2.50 for a bottle of stella

Milkshake@ Ministry of Sound, SE1 6DP. Tuesday.

If you can get over the initial shock of such a world- renowned club being in the less than glam Elephant and Castle, Ministry is worth a visit (for freshers mainly!). Tuesday is the student night and shots start at £2. Entrance £4 with a student card £5 without. A word of warning- the queues are long so bring a can or two for the wait!

Walkabout Temple, Temple,WC2R 2PH. Wednesday.

A KCL night on a Wednesday. Not much point going to this Walkabout on any other night unless you want to watch sport. It is the ultimate student night with sports teams and dressing up galore. Very cheap drinks, very fun and very messy- a lot of Kings students find themselves there every Wednesday. Go to Walkabout if you want a very I love uni evening!

Proud Galleries, Camden,WC2N 6BP. Thursday.

Proud is quirky, original and fun. It is a converted stables- with a cobbled floor and individual stables to chill out in. It hosts a variety of nights- the weekend nights being more expensive. Proud attracts a range of people all very trendy and out to have a good night. Live bands play in one room and music in the others.  Stables can be hired out for private functions. Proud is not a cheap night out but the venue and music make up for this. On a thursday Proud host a Club Remix which features the future of Indie and Electronica! 3 live acts performing before 11pm, after this Dance DJs and producers will be do their utmost to subvert ‘the home of indie’ with a hatful of leftfield beats and warehouse bangers until 2am.

FWD @Plastic People. Curtain Road, EC2A 3QE. Thursday.

If you love drum and base then you will LOVE this night. Its £7 entry and definitely worth it. Dimly lit and underground, a makeshift bar and an intimate dance floor- Plastic People is a cool and edgy Shoreditch hangout without the pretense. The quality sound system will leave your ears ringing until the early morning. Dress down and go and party! Check the website for the line up each week.

Popstarz- *GAY night*@The Den, Soho, WC1A 1JJ. Friday.

Full to the brim with a good mix of people which reflects the mixture of music that is played. Free entry with a flyer and happy hour all before 11pm. Although known for its indie following, the club attracts many- where else can you get a double spirit and mix for £4.00 on a friday night?

The standard club night is open 10pm-4am then Popstars AfterDark kicks off 4am-8am!

Infernos, Clapham,SW4 7UH. Saturday.

A Saturday night at Infernos is a different London experience. It’s Claphams version of Walkabout and attracts young professionals more then students. Very cheesy music and a disco feel, it is £10 entry. Drinks are expensive so pre-drinks are essential! Go with a group!
